Surf
A south swell holds 2 to 4 ft into Friday, Brooks the standout, then fades through the weekend. Mornings go light offshore once Wednesday's storm clears, and the water is 73. And the tides get weird: king tides build to 6.5 foot morning highs by Monday, with minus-tide afternoons Sunday through Tuesday, the best tidepooling window of the fall.

Laguna Lore
Ever wonder why the beach below the Montage is called Treasure Island? It started as Goff Island, after the family that homesteaded it in the late 1800s. Then Hollywood shot Treasure Island pictures at the cove in the 1930s, and the pirate name stuck. A trailer park kept it alive for decades; the park above the beach carries it today.
